Sir, - Am I the only person who has noticed the sudden proliferation of huge building-sized advertising notices on Dublin's thoroughfares recently?
These appear to have started as a "nice little earner" for building contractors or building owners as they draped them over their eyesore scaffolds. But now it appears to be de rigeur for businesses to have these displayed over their premises freely. Can anybody tell me if it is legal for companies to do this or if not why they are not prosecuted?
Dublin, for all its faults, is a beautiful city with many good examples of historic architecture and fine buildings. Do we really want to see the city become one massive advertising billboard? - Yours etc.,
Michael J. Buckley, Killiney, Co Dublin.
