Madam, - A report in Tuesday's edition regarding the sale of the Wood Collection, housed in the University of Limerick, states that the collection includes works by Paul Henry and Louis Le Brocquy. These artists' works do not form part of the Wood Collection, but are represented at the university in the Irish American Cultural Institute Collection (Hooker-O'Malley), the National Self Portrait Collection of Ireland and the university's own art collection.
The Wood Collection - a magnificent one by any standards - is composed of 18th- and 19th-century Irish and British art. Its presence in the university has enriched the lives of students and staff and has been invaluable for the teaching of the MA in the history of art and architecture. - Yours, etc,
Dr CATHERINE LAWLESS,
