Sir, - Heather Ingman's comparison of Dublin to Paris (An Englishwoman's Diary, March 20th) is absolute nonsense.

On my last visit to Paris, I didn't see any Marks and Spencers, Currys, Dixons, Waterstones, Manchester United shops, double-decker buses, Indian restaurants, fish and chip shops, larger louts, B&Bs. . .The locals weren't drinking tea and eating scones, nor watching Sky Sports with pints in hand, shouting for Arsenal or Chelsea. Nor did they speak English.

It wasn't raining either! - Yours, etc.,
