PARITY OF ESTEEM IN ENNISKILLEN

Sir, - When Francis Meagher created the green, white and orange Tricolour, a flag presumably accepted by Sinn Féin, his intention was that republicans should recognise and respect the traditions of their Orange fellow citizens in the North.

How does this relate to the demand for the total removal of all symbols with even remotely "Orange" connections from the council buildings in Enniskillen? Some cynical unionist observers may suspect that the reason the orange section of the Tricolour is on the outside is so that as soon as republicans have triumphed it can be cut off.

Surely the present-day proponents of Sinn Féin have strayed far from the values of Wolfe Tone, whose visage does grace the Enniskillen building. - Yours, etc.,
