Parnell's Sisters

Sir, - Ben Hemmens' letter (September 14th) suggesting a statue of a distinguished female in O'Connell Street. I would like to see justice done to two women who used their talents in a constructive way at a time of great political upheaval and dreadful social deprivation. These are Anna and Fanny Parnell.

The Parnell Monument is a three-sided tapering shaft. C.S. Parnell is on the side facing O'Connell Street. Is it possible that the sculptor had the two sisters in mind? I like to think so, and hope that they will quite rightly join their brother on his dais.

The monument would be a reminder of one of the most remarkable family groups in Irish history. - Yours, etc.,
