Sir, – Harry McGee's excellent article "People Before Profit and the Anti-Austerity Alliance – spot the difference" (Analysis, October 9th) explains the historical journey of these two rebranded socialist parties.
It is a good thing for parties to align if it means that they can grow and eventually implement policies. But I cannot understand why those advocating for the poorest and most vulnerable in society need to burden themselves with so much ideological baggage of revolutionary ideas of a past era and a divisive liberal agenda on social issues that potentially limits their attraction to otherwise like-minded citizens. – Yours, etc,
