Sir, - On several occasions I have cast my vote via your Letters page in favour of Ireland's proposed membership of the NATO-sponsored Partnership for Peace. With few exceptions, I have evoked a chorus of negative responses from a cross-section of the Irish intelligentsia.
After carefully scrutiny of the arguments presented by the anti-PfP lobby and the half-hearted support offered by the political protagonists, I have had to reassess my pro-PfP stand. I have concluded that the organisation known as Partnership for Peace does not deserve to have Ireland as an active member and should withdraw the offer of membership immediately. - Yours, etc.,
Edward D. Rafferty, Grattan Terrace, Grogans Road, Wexford.
