Madam, - Having attended and immensely enjoyed the Paul Byrom concert in the National Concert Hall last Thursday I was dismayed by Peter Crawley's savaging of a fine evening's entertainment from one of the country's brightest young stars (Review, February 18th).
Byrom's singing, interspersed with light banter, struck a fine balance between operatic performance and pop crooning. A standing ovation and two encores hardly reflect an evening of "shtick", as Mr Cawley so eloquently put it.
I also find it more than a little annoying that someone whose charge it was to review the concert found it fit to poke fun at the children accompanying Byrom on stage and at his interaction with the audience yet omitted any reference to the singer's considerable vocal prowess. I would have expected a more balanced review of this wonderful evening's entertainment from the national paper of record. - Yours, etc,
JOHN McCALL, Dublin 7.
