Madam, – I have read and re-read Olivia Kelly’s report of the Dublin City Council parking appeals officer with some astonishment (Front page, June 3rd). It appears that appeals were granted when they were not justified, that refunds and part-refunds were made even when the appeals were declined and crucially a significant number of appeals related to tickets falling from vehicle dashboards. My understanding is that this rarely happens when parking receipts have an adhesive tab attached; but that solution is apparently not even considered.

Instead we are told that an increase in the clamping release fee is required of almost 90 per cent from €80 to €150 in order for the service to break even. Never mind the complaints of bad language from clampers, I’m struggling to contain some blue words myself. – Yours, etc,
