Madam, – Your report on the three self-confessed skivers who were awarded five-figure sums in compensation for unfair dismissal by the Employment Appeals Tribunal reads like one of the best Ealing Studios comedy scripts (“Pay-outs for carpet workers despite fraud admissions”, The Irish Times, January 7th).
More seriously, it raises the question of how fairly balanced are the scales of justice in these tribunals. For it appears to me that they are always tipped firmly against the employer whatever the scale of the “irregularities” perpetrated by the employee. – Yours, etc,
