Sir, - Joss Lynam's call for no tax cuts because of the poor state of our Health Service (November 7th) is ill-founded. The tax burden must be reduced because it is oppressive and because the current Government promised it would be lowered.

Our health-care system will not improved until we make our Government accountable for how they spend our money. We have poor health facilities and long queues for heart surgery and because the Government does not channel enough public funds in that direction. There seems to be plenty of taxpayers' money to fund "luxuries" such as TnaG (£20 million a year) as opposed to health-care.

How the Government can justify this trade-off is beyond reason. It is obvious there is no audit or accountability and it would be foolish to give the Government more money. - Yours, etc.,

Tom Harper,
