Madam, – An Post appears to have decided that those of us who wish to use religiously-themed postage stamps for our Christmas cards should pay extra for the privilege.

As in previous years, An Post has produced a series of beautiful Christmas stamps, including a 55c stamp depicting a stained glass representation of the Nativity. The 55c stamps in the popular discounted booklets, however, depict a robin perched on a holly branch. It is an attractive stamp but has, at best, a tenuous connection to Christmas.

If I am content to use this secular image I get a free stamp with every booklet, but not if I prefer to remain true to the meaning of Christmas. Can someone please explain why? – Yours, etc,
