Sir, - The letter from Consultant Seamus O'Riain of St Vincent's Hospital is apt. Because by their very natures most nurses are caring, society has taken ad vantage of them. Also, there is no doubt but that up to recently, nursing has been largely a female profession; low pay was considered "sufficient".
Not any more. It is time that society at large, and the powers that be in particular, recognised the value of nurses' work and paid them accordingly. In fact, much of their work is beyond price. - Yours, etc.,
