Sir, - It now seems clear that something is rotten in the state of Ireland. After years of self-serving wrangling over an ethics Bill, our TDs now appear to handle Ray Burke with kid gloves. Why has Fine Gael in particular been so lacklustre in insisting on Mr Burke's inclusion in a new tribunal? Even more deplorable has been the deafening silence of the Progressive Democrats. God be with the days when the former occupiers of the high moral ground would be calling from the rooftops for a resignation.
