From SEAN GERAGHTY, CHAIRMAN, THOMAS F. MAHER, SECRETARY

Sir, - It is now almost 12 months since the start of our campaign for the restoration of parity of pensions in the public service. Eight months ago, Fianna Fail and Progressive Democrats, in a written joint statement before the General Election, promised to restore the link between pensions and pay if returned to Government in the June General Election.

They were returned to Government and confirmation was eventually given to pensioners on November 6th that parity of pensions would be fully restored. Insult has now been added to injury. Written directives and scales have been issued to various public bodies in relation to pensions but it is patently clear that pension parity has not been restored for all public service pensioners.

Pensioners now need to reconsider their situation. North Dublin and Limerick pensioners and others will shortly have an opportunity of expressing their views on the promise, so urgently given last June and now so casually ignored, when the main objective (ie return to Government) has been achieved. - Yours, etc.,
