Sir, – It is a welcome sign of solidarity that the Government has agreed to share a portion of the €3.8 billion dividend accrued through sale of AIB shares with the public sector. However, has it forgotten the €2 billion contribution from private pension funds? Surely a portion of this fund should be given as redress to these burden-bearers, many of whom are beyond income earning years, and with no means of addressing shortfalls. Not only would this be a demonstration of a true fair and just society, it might also be considered wise, at a time when we are extolling the importance of providing responsibly for your future through pension provision. An inverted form of moral hazard, one might say. – Yours, etc,
SUZANNE DOYLE,
Tully, Kildare.
