Sir, – Tony Flannery of the Association of Catholic Priests (July 7th) has challenged the doctrine of the Perpetual Virginity of Mary.
Evangelical Christians, while believing that Jesus was born of a virgin, would generally accept subsequent Bible passages which speak of Jesus as having brothers and sisters. This is not just a theological or historical quibble.
Evangelical Christians would affirm that sexuality is a precious gift from God to married couples, including Mary and Joseph, and is intended to be treasured and enjoyed.
