Madam, - I read with interest and concern the report on the Personal Injuries Assessment Board in your edition of May 4th.

The report includes the often-quoted insurance company mantra that legal costs add 40 per cent to personal injury claims.

It also quotes estimates from Government sources that the PIAB system, which envisages a "lawyer-free" zone, will result in a 7 per cent reduction in insurance premiums.
