Sir, – In a month in which crude oil prices have been falling and the euro has been strengthening against the dollar, Irish petrol companies raise their prices within a week of a hurricane.
It is a pity that our Government is not as zealous about price control as it is about wage control. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – Why has there been no reduction in petrol prices in Ireland in recent months despite the fall in the dollar exchange rate from 1.07 to the euro on February 1st to 1.19 on September 1st?
By my calculations, the fuel price here should have fallen by almost 10 cents per litre.
It shows yet again the need for price controls in the petrol and diesel trade in Ireland. – Yours, etc,
