Pets – steadfast companions

Sir, – I was stopped in my tracks by an article on the death of a beloved cat by Pamela McDonald (July 4th).

We underestimate the value of pets in our lives. They love us unconditionally, remain our steadfast companions, depend on us for care and protection, and we in turn have a duty of care to them. Eventually they will pass away, and hopefully after a long, healthy and active life. When they do go to doggy or catty heaven, we will suffer the emotional pain of sadness and grief. Thank God for our pets; our lives would be so much poorer without them. – Yours, etc,

PAT O’BRIEN,
