Sir, - T. P. McK's moving tribute (Appreciation, December 27th) to the late Philip O'Flynn brought back many happy memories of this great Abbey player.

Contrary to what T.P. suggested, O'Flynn gave at least one towering performance after the death of his beloved Angela: in Hugh Leonard's A Life under Joe Dowling's direction in July, 1980. Philip was as needle-sharp and ebullient as ever as "Kearns" to the deadpan "Drumm" of Cyril Cusack.

Philip O'Flynn will never be forgotten by the generation of theatre-goers who were privileged to have been moved to tears and laughter by his unfailing brilliance.

May his gentle soul rest in peace. - Yours, etc.,
