Madam, - John Collins (Letters, Dec 21st) queries why as a regular traveller through Dublin Airport, he does not yet see any bulldozers working on the planned new Pier D.

I would like to reassure Mr Collins that he will begin to see initial construction work on the new facility from very early in 2006 and to remind him that the Government only made its final decision last May to proceed with the new pier.

Since that date the Dublin Airport Authority has been intensively engaged in consultation processes about the new pier with airline customers at Dublin Airport; in assessing its various planning options and in managing the complex procurement process that attends any large public sector capital investment project.

I would also like to reassure Mr Collins that Pier D will be complete and ready for operation by the autumn of 2007, as the Dublin Airport Authority has pledged consistently.
