Madam, - Thank you for Jamie Smyth's excellent article on EU fishing off Africa ("EU accused of links to illegal fishing by pirate fleets", European Diary, December 13th).
It shows very clearly that the old adage - "Give a man a fish, feed him for a day; Teach him how to fish, feed him for a lifetime" - needs to be updated.
I suggest adding a line stating: "Teach him about EU politics, so he can compete with industrial trawl fishing." - Yours, etc,
