Madam, - The Greystones Harbour Residents' Association welcomes the recent letter from An Bord Pleanála to Wicklow County Council regarding the proposed private marina, housing, retail and car-park development at Greystones harbour.
We feel completely justified and vindicated for the position we have taken against this hideous outrage. The board has not simply looked for a reduction in the number of apartments, but has also called for a "redesign" of the rest of them. It recognises that the proposal was too big and out of character. What we don't understand at this stage is why the board has not just simply rejected the proposal.
Wicklow County Council's position has been that no other site was available, and that the proposal would not be viable if there was any reduction in the number of apartments. It never told An Bord Pleanála of the availability of land south of the town and then when this came to light, the council said it was to be used for other things. It should now be incapable of adjusting the proposal to make it viable.
The residents' association must question the motives of council officials and councillors who continue to push this project in the face of widespread public objections and now demands from An Bord Pleanála.
We now call on the local councillors to demand the withdrawal of the proposal. - Yours, etc,
RORY FALLON, Greystones Harbour Residents' Association, Co Wicklow.
