Plan to sell land on Dublin Bay

Madam, - Avarice knows no bounds

Madam, - Avarice knows no bounds. Yet again a local authority is disgracing itself by attempting to sell green open space with a stunning view of Dublin Bay and its perimeter ("Plan for sale of 8 acres of Dublin Bay green belt", The Irish Times, November 21st).

What, I wonder, would Alfie Byrne have thought about the decision to discard two soccer pitches on the road that bears his name, and erect in place the warehouse-type structures so beloved of local authorities?

Dubliners are entitled to these green open spaces, and Dublin City Council should preserve and protect this precious area overlooking the East Wall boat club instead of selling it off to the highest bidder.

Local authorities are not the owners of parklands - they hold them in trust and must instead protect every remaining inch for generations of Dubliners to come.
