Madam, - I was delighted to see the article by Frank McDonald highlighting the issue of dubious planning decisions in Donegal.

Each time I go home to north west Donegal, I cringe when I see the proliferation of holiday homes scarring the beautiful scenery. Most holiday homes are empty for much of the year, turning a once vibrant area into a "ghost community".

The article has confirmed for me that planning in Donegal is ineffective and does not work in the public interest. The first step towards scrupulous planning decisions is to root out any dubious officials. The second step is to impose a hefty tax on those who purchase a holiday home - Yours, etc.,
