Sir, - Some of your correspondents on the subject of the new 10p charge on plastic bags seem to have missed the point. They say that this new charge will cost a family a pound or so a week. That is presuming they continue to keep getting new bags every time they go shopping.
The idea of the new charge is to encourage people to reuse plastic bags, or buy a durable bag of some sort. Almost every house I know has a huge collection of plastic bags stashed in a corner; now we have some encouragement to use them. - Yours, etc.,
