Madam, - Sugradh, a charity promoting better play facilities for children in Ireland, has been awarded funding by the National Disability Authority to carry out a study of the play needs of children with disabilities.
The aims of the research are to examine existing public play provision for children with disabilities; establish the playground requirements of children with disabilities; and improve the provision of play places for children with disabilities through a better understanding of the need for "inclusive" play where children of all abilities can play together.
It would greatly help the study if we could hear the direct experiences of children with disabilities, and their parents, regarding these issues.
We would especially like to hear of particular playgrounds that may be examples of good practice. - Yours, etc.,
Dr RICHARD WEBB, Sugradh, Springfields, Ballywaltrim Lane, Bray, Co Wicklow.
