CATHERINE JORDAN,
Sir, - As an Armagh fan, I was dismayed to learn of the GAA's decision to hold the All-Ireland football quarter final replay between Armagh and Sligo in Navan, rather than in Croke Park. The powers that be have decided to "give Croke Park to the Dubs" on Sunday, having been persuaded by local residents, the Dublin County Board, and other powerful bodies to do so.
I realise, of course, that Dublin teams and fans enjoy having their matches in Croke Park, but do their wishes count for more than the rest of us?
Apparently so. By relegating our match to an inferior venue, the GAA is sending out a very clear message: Armagh and Sligo teams and fans are worth a lot less to us than those of the Dubs. The timing of the match is also an insult - 5.15pm. Armagh fans, at least, do not have a huge journey in front of them after the game, but what of Sligo? Does anyone care? I am truly saddened and disgusted at this blatant example of double standards. Once again the so-called weaker counties have to play second fiddle to the Old Boys. Our day will come. - Yours, etc.,
CATHERINE JORDAN,
