Madam, - Thanks to RTÉ for repeating the Prime Time Special on the plight of the Irish who emigrated to Britain in the 1950s and 1960s. I am old enough to remember a time when those hard-earned remittances made the vital difference to survival for many rural communities. This State was built on them.
To turn our back on these emigrants now is a blight on our nationhood and a thundering disgrace. On a day when Minister McCreevy was taken to task for his largesse to the Punchestown Equestrian Centre, his, and Minister Cowen's mealy mouthed response on this issue, is sufficient reason alone to vote out this discredited Government at the first opportunity. - Yours, etc.,
