Madam, - Membership of the EU warrants compliance with its agreed standards/rules. Carol Coulter's excellent article "Time to Hold Garda to Account" (July 19th) raises very serious questions about our criminal justice system. The Government's effort to create a Police Inspectorate, as distinct from Police Ombudsman, as enjoyed by our EU neighours up north, does not go far enough. Perhaps the EU needs to "review" our membership, if only to emphasise equality of rights/protection for ALL its EU citizens. - Yours etc.,
