Policing the roads

Madam, - Like everyone else, I am appalled by the number of people being killed on the roads. I realise it must be hard for gardaí to police traffic, with speeding and drinking and the generally poor standards of driving.

With this in mind, I was surprised to encounter three speed checks on the N11, between the Cherrywood interchange and Donnybrook, last Saturday morning. This section of road is amply policed, I feel, by the high number of traffic lights on it, which make it hard to exceed the speed limit. How often do we hear of fatal accidents on this section of road at midday on a Saturday?

Surely resources would be better spent elsewhere, such as on B-roads down the country, where more accidents appear to occur. - Yours, etc,
