Sir, - Kevin Myers makes an extremely valid point regarding present immigration laws and the lack of reasoned debate on the subject (Irishman's Diary November 6th).
As with all immigration "debates" the wider picture and longer time frame fall spectacularly foul of the cacophony of the over zealous chattering classes. Do Irish people not have a right to debate and mould the shape of their future society or should the tyranny of political correctness rule forever?
The conspiracy of silence among all the major political parties on the abuse of Irish immigration laws is indeed saddening and the vacuum created will, I am sure, be filled by more unsavoury elements before long. - Yours, etc.,
Muiris Mac Gearailt, Castleknock, Dublin 15.
