Madam, - There has been much debate lately about the amount of time the politicians spend out of Leinster house - with, of course, the defence being made that they are fiercely busy doing a whole lot of work that we don't hear about.
According to Martin Mansergh TD, speaking on RTÉ, 6,200 passport applications were processed through the offices of TDs last year. I was under the impression that we have two passport offices which are well staffed. I was also under the impression that we have Citizen's Information Offices all over the country, again with staff who are quite capable of giving help with filling out forms, if needed. I simply don't understand what role TDs have in the process.
It is beyond time that a job description was agreed for TDs, just as it is for people in other workplaces (benchmarking, anyone?). If TDs are doing jobs we employ other people for, then one lot should be let go. - Yours, etc,
TERESA GRAHAM,
