A Chara, - Trevor Sargent is reported as saying the Green Party is "not in the business of putting one or other person into the office of Taoiseach" (The Irish Times, September 8th), saying that it was policies that mattered. However, he also says he could not sit in coalition if Martin Cullen, Frank Fahey or Dick Roche were Ministers: "There are a number of Ministers who would have to say goodbye before we had any effective government".
Could he please explain how this represents putting policies before personalities? Fianna Fáil would, I believe, be open to coalition with the Greens but our difficulties, rather than being personal, would be with some of Mr Sargent's policies on the economy and Europe. - Is mise,
