Sir, - I thought the article by Father O'Hanlon (April 19th) was splendid. the sharpness of parody, the turgid prose (with innumerable cheap asides, including the vulgar reference to Aras Catholics) was reminiscent of Flan O'Brien or early Beckett. To my Northern Prody mind the image created by the author of a frocked celibate misogynist pontificating on what he thinks are appropriate women's clothes was a perfect caricature of an Irish priesthood from a bygone age.

The preference for Garda blue was interesting. Does this disguise a subliminal explanation for his disgust of sombre green because it is the colour of the uniform of the predominantly Protestant, RUC?

Father O'Hanlon is a masterly creation and the picture will long stay with me of the glint of his anachronistic eye as he monitors the waywardness of this wicked world from behind the dusty panes of some distant theological establishment. When can we expect the book? - Yours, etc.,

Groomsport,
