Sir, – Your paper often pleads lack of space for the non-publication of letters, but no such restrictions seem to apply to the Catholic Church’s critics. It seems that they can write any amount of nonsense, and space will be provided for them. The letter from Joe Keyes is a case in point (September 27th). Most of us would take the position that a “decline in religious practice” and a “growth in secularisation” were synonymous, but Mr Keyes sees Pope Benedict’s apparent preference for one of these terms as reflecting the primacy of politics over religion at the Vatican! If you insist on publishing letters of this type, then of course you will lack space for something more meaningful. – Yours, etc,
