Pope’s words on homosexuality

Sir, – Pope Francis covered a wide range of subjects in the course of his recent trip to Brazil. But as ever the media’s obsession with sex meant that a very brief few words in relation to homosexuality were given disproportionate attention.

I suppose we should be thankful, as Pope Benedict was frequently attacked by the media for supposed attacks on homosexuals, when a cursory reading of his actual speech revealed he never even mentioned the subject. Pope Francis has been adopted as the media's honorary good guy (you know, liberals = good guys ; conservatives = bad guys) which is quite bizarre, as he is doctrinally ad idem with his predecessor. The irony again is that on this occasion the Pope has merely reiterated timeless Catholic teaching: "love the sinner, hate the sin". – Yours, etc,
