Post offices and banks

Sir, – The friendly and helpful service I receive at the Stillorgan and Blackrock branches of An Post is light years ahead of the alternative “machines” one faces in a bank branch.

This impersonal attitude of the banks is clearly designed by the banks to get their hands on our hard-earned cash without the inconvenience of providing any customer service.

In rural areas, the post office is an essential part of the community, and there is no way social welfare payments should be switched from An Post to the banks. After all is it not the “pillar banks” that have been closing their rural branches? I rest my case. – Yours, etc,

MIKE CORMACK,
