Sir, – I wish to highlight the on-going stealth removal by An Post of our historical cylindrical post-boxes from our Dublin streets.
Overnight they seem to vanish – as did those on Arbour Hill, Stoneybatter, and Dartmouth Square in recent times. Yesterday I noticed shiny new boring square boxes erected on Manor Street beside the old box – which is no doubt awaiting its swift removal.
An Post should be ashamed of itself for the obliteration of some of the last vestiges of our historical street furniture. I, for one, would like to know what is the fate of the old boxes? Dublin streets are poorer for their absence.
Well done An Post for contributing to our relentless march towards dumbing down Dublin city into just another “High Street replicate”. – Yours, etc,
