Sir, – Ireland of the smart economy and smart policing is finally to have a new (presumably smart) postcode (Home News, June 29th). With a straight face, we are informed this monumental task will take 18 months and will be the “most modern in Europe”.
Perhaps the Government’s plan is to reinvent the postcode wheel and come up with a system, the complexity and brilliance of which has heretofore never been imagined. This newly hewn technology will no doubt colour co-ordinate with the euros to be wasted on its creation, while the world is awash with systems which presumably could be purchased and implemented at a fraction of the cost. – Yours, etc,
