Sir, – I welcome the letters by Catriona Burke and Daith Mac Carthaigh (October 3rd) as they both underline the fact that, whether or not the UK exits the EU, trade between the UK and the other nations within the EU will remain unrestricted.
As these EU nations export more to the UK than vice versa it is unrealistic for them to apply trade barriers with the UK. In our island of Ireland we will all welcome the reality that trade will not be restricted and that our common travel area between the Republic and the UK will be maintained.
So much for the scaremongering by those who promise trade restrictions and passport controls at the Border if the UK exits the EU, as is becoming increasingly likely. – Yours, etc,
Lord KILCLOONEY,
Mullinure,
Armagh.
