Sir, – Very decent of Martin Mansergh to give us the benefit of his accumulated wisdom on “European financial diplomacy” and its workings (Letters, May 7th).
Now if only he had been in cabinet when the iceberg loomed. – Yours, etc,
Sir, – The forthcoming referendum on the fiscal compact might be better phrased, vote Yes for controlled austerity, vote No for “shock and awe” austerity.
The balderdash being pedalled by the vote No alliance who believe that money will fall from the sky to pay for our civil servants and welfare payments is nothing short of laughable. Our country is being led down the garden path to a cesspool by people whose loyalties lie with their own popularity and not the welfare of this State.
The bottom line is this – if a European referendum offered every citizen of this State €10,000 with no strings attached, Sinn Féin, United Left, etc, would give us 10 reasons why we should vote against it. So how can we believe a word they say? We cannot. – Yours, etc,
