A chara, - Although attracted initially to the Mary Robinson presidential campaign on the basis of her social commitment to Irish society, I was very pleasantly surprised of her support and understanding of the importance of the Irish language and its associated culture. As Uachtaran na hEireann, she taught us all a lesson on the dual aspect of our culture.
As a member of the Irish speaking community, I thank Mhaire Mhic Roibin for our place in the sun. It is with regret that I read Fintan O'Toole's article on the President (March 13th), in which this very important dimension was ignored.
