Sir, - May I, through your columns, publicly thank President McAleese for the delight and gratitude generated by her recent visit to Uganda?
Many of the men and women on the missions give their time, knowledge and expertise in many areas to care and tend less fortunate peoples. Sometimes they are so far away they seem cut off and forgotten.
They were thrilled with our President's visit and thought her to be warm, elegant, young but sensible and she listened to all. This was important to them.
My own friend, Father Dermot Byrne of the Mill Hill Fathers, Mbiko Mission, was so impressed. He and his colleagues talk of the visit daily and say she has left such wonderful memories behind her. It is unlikely she will be forgotten in Uganda for years to come. - Yours, etc.,
