Sir, - Ann Ryan (February 19th) asks why Ryanair's in-flight prices are in sterling.
Sixteen per cent of our 10 million-plus passengers last year originated in Ireland. The overwhelming majority (61 per cent) originated in the UK, and over 90 per cent of our total traffic is travelling either from or to the UK. Our in-flight services are priced in sterling simply because that is the currency that suits the overwhelming majority of our customers, and therefore streamlines the payment for products and services on board.
Lastly, whilst the overwhelming majority of our people are and are proud to be Irish, we are a European airline, not an Irish one. - Yours, etc.,
