Sir, – Minister for Defence Simon Coveney must be congratulated on announcing the new investment and commitment to our Defence Forces. In particular, I acknowledge the new employment support for those between 18 and 24.
Now reaching 70, I do not think I was ever officially decommissioned from the Army. I was corporal-in-charge, Regiment of Pearse, 20th Infantry Battalion, Clongowes Wood College, 1963/64. I might add that I grew up in Collins Barracks, Cork. My late father Michael retired after a full career as a soldier as deputy judge advocate. I will always be proud of our Defence Forces. – Yours, etc,
