Sir, – Was there ever a more absurd headline in The Irish Times education section than "Primary teachers disproportionately white, Irish and Catholic" (September 27th)? I am willing to bet that the vast majority of primary school teachers in Pakistan are Pakistani Muslim, and that most primary teachers in Nigeria are black and Nigerian. I am also pretty sure people in both countries care less about what teachers look like as opposed to the quality of the teaching.
We seem to have become a country obsessed with doing gender, religious and racial head-counts, as opposed to seeing individuals as just that, individuals. – Yours, etc,
