Sir, – Residential tenants in receipt of letters in error relating to the local property tax are being informed that they are liable to pay the tax in the absence of any correction (“Your guide to local property tax & how to pay and file”, Revenue, February, 2013).
The master and servant strategy used to influence our actions would not be necessary if properties were checked against the registration of title system (Land Registry) which provides a state guaranteed title to property or the registration of deeds system (Registry of Deeds) which records the priority of the registered deeds and conveyances.
Homeowners are further told that if they follow the guidance in an honest manner Revenue will accept their valuation.
We should all be honest, eh? – Yours, etc,
JOHN KYNE,
Cherrywood Road,
Dublin 18.
