Sir, - Your report of September 28th on An Taisce's comments about protected structures gives the misleading impression that Kildare County Council has taken no action to protect Carton House.
This is unfortunate, as we were contacted by your paper with a request for our comments on An Taisce's statement, and we were surprised when they were not included in the report. We pointed out that Kildare County Council had always respected the historical and architectural aspects of Carton and would continue to do so. We also said we had engaged a conservation officer whose priority was to finalise the list of protected structures for the county.
I am happy to confirm those comments on behalf of Kildare County Council, and I should be grateful if you could please bring them to the attention of your readers. - Yours, etc.,
